I feel you. I was kind of shocked when I found out a few years ago that many B and C grade old movies that I thought could be posted to IA were still under copyright. Though no more so than when I found that movies could be under copyright for a total of 95 years! No matter how astoundingly bad a film, there's often someone who thinks they may make more money from it than they put into obtaining the rights to it, especially Sci Fi films. A quick check shows that
Fire Maidens of Outer Space isn't even available on DVD through Amazon. There isn't enough of a market now, probably, but they've got another 40 years of copyright protection, so they can bide their time, I guess. Then there are those films in a sort of limbo, where rights are owned by several parties, and, for example, one or more of them thinks their rights are worth more than a distribution company thinks it can recoup, and the company ends up passing on it. Maybe they can agree someday...

I found that out with a CBS show back in 1967 called He?She. Again, no DVD on Amazon or any where for that matter.
The same is true for Trials of O'Brein- an early Pet Falk program before Columbo. Greed is so terrible. :=(

And nobody profits if no one gets to see them. No biggy to me. If I can't buy the movie because nobody will make it available, I'll just bide my time and wait for it to show up on TCM. I've got quite a few rare ones from doing that.

That's most true. You can wait for TCM and get them on your DVD-R. The shows I mentioned have not been seen for forty years and chances as good as selling a frig to an eskimo in winter.

FWIW, the "watch instantly" option for a certain dvd-by-mail rental service (whose name I will not utter here) has recently added a huge amount of vintage schlock, many of which have been mentioned at one time or another in this forum. For example, The Maze (1953), Invasion of the Star Creatures(1962), and others, including dozens of forgotten, low-to-no budget b movies in the mid-fifties JD and/or noir mold, lots and lots (and lots)of westerns, and enough biker\counterculture\horror exploitation from the 60's and 70's to put the most avid William Smith fan in 7th heaven. Most of them cannot be rented by mail, they can only be watched on-line. There are probably many titles there that have never appeared on DVD or VHS because of the obscurity and limited appeal of this stuff. Netflix (whoops)does nothing to promote this treasure trove of trash; you'd never know any of it was there unless you choose a genre, manually sort by year, and then start drilling down.
I would prefer that this sort of wonderful 2nd bill ephemera were PD, but at least they're available in *some* form...

There's a handful of old sci-fi movies that I really would like to have, but my life is so full of family health dramas and other priorities that I can bide my time as well. If my "most wanted" titles aren't made available before I get beamed up to the Mother-Father Ship in the Sky, eh...no biggie. I'm grateful for what I've already found here and on the DVDs I have. There aren't enough hours in the day to watch everything I've got anyhoo...

Sorry to hear about your family health problems. If I get the chance, there are a few on this somewhat
incomplete list and more that I very much want to see before I kick it. In the meantime, I think I'll watch
